The nickel content is less than half of the total amount of alloys present in the fastener. It was developed by carpenter technology and these sheets are also known as Carpenter 20 Sheets. It is super austenitic due to the presence of iron in abundance in it. These sheets offer excellent resistance to corrosion under the effect of water, air, and alkali. They offer tremendous resistance to attacks of all kinds of acids especially sulfuric acid. They even withstand the after-effects of contact with hot sulfuric acid. These sheets are commonly found in chemical mixers and fertilizer manufacturing equipment. Usually, these are a cost-effective alternative to other sheets. The presence of nickel in a considerable proportion makes it light weighted. Some of the prominent heavy industries that make regular use of these sheets are chemical processing industries and large power generation units.
These plates are designed to withstand unconditional variations in temperature. These can retain most of their properties even at extreme temperatures. Their physical strength remains intact at very high temperatures. These sheets due to its resistance to all kinds of corrosions are apt for utilization in marine applications. To go with that their dimensional accuracy is one of its prime features. These properties make it easier to transport for long distances.
These sheets can withstand sulfuric acid which makes them a popular product in this category. The quantity of nickel has given immunity to chloride stress corrosion cracking. These sheets are not prone to SCC problems, which may regularly occur with sheets from other alloys. Utilization of these sheets can be a better solution in comparison to the use of sheets from other alloys. These are commonly used in chemical processing, dye production, and food processing plants.
