Hastelloy C22 butt-weld fittings are covered by ASTM B366/B366M (ASME SB366) for wrought nickel alloy butt fittings. In this specification, Alloy C‑22 is designated under Class “CR-HG-22” (a corrosion-resistant Grade HG-22). ASME B16.9 also governs the dimensions of the welded shapes. The alloy is furnished in hot-finished (annealed) condition to meet the mechanical and toughness requirements. These ANSI B16.9 Hastelloy C22 fittings come in elbows, tees, reducers, caps, and stub ends. Standard wall schedules (Sch 10S to Sch XXS) and classes are produced.
Because of N06022’s corrosion resistance, its fittings are chosen for harsh environments where carbon or even stainless steels would fail. They excel in hot, highly oxidizing or chlorinated acids (e.g. hot hydrochloric, nitric, sulfuric acids, mixtures) and in high-temperature corrosives. The alloy maintains strength to ~400°C and has good fabricability. Its chief advantage is safety in extreme conditions – it resists both uniform and localized attack. As an example, Hastelloy C-22 fittings are used in chemical reactors, flue-gas treatment units, offshore systems handling sour gas, and nuclear fuel processing. In short, N06022 butt-weld fittings combine high strength with “outstanding resistance to both oxidizing and non-oxidizing chemicals, and protection from pitting, crevice attack, and stress corrosion cracking”
