Stainless Steel 317L is a low carbon austenitic grade known for its corrosion and oxidation resistance properties, thanks to its composition of iron, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, carbon, and sulfur. With enhanced resistance in stress-induced environments, stainless steel 317L pipes perform exceptionally well in aqueous conditions, courtesy of their molybdenum content. Their lower carbon content makes them resistant to sensitization, granting higher creep-rupture properties.
Notably, 317L stainless steel seamless pipe is non-magnetic when annealed and can be easily welded following standard procedures. Moreover, it can be dual-certified with strengthening agents like nitrogen. While these pipes cannot undergo heat treatment, they are typically cold-worked to enhance their hardness within the system.
The ASTM A312 TP317L Seamless Pipe passes heated steel billets through a metal to create a hollow opening. Though it’s time-consuming and expensive due to specialized materials, the WNR. 1.4438 Seamless Pipe offers excellent strength and load-bearing capacity compared to other pipes in its grade. These pipes can handle 20% more fluids than other types.
For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, the SS 317L Welded Pipe is a great choice. These pipes are made by rolling and welding steel using standard processes. While welded pipes have a lower load-bearing capacity, they come in various sizes.
